Manchester United are not planning to sell Lisandro Martinez, a key player in their squad, despite rumoured interest from Real Madrid.
Martinez, a central defender, will reportedly only be sold if a bumper offer comes in, beyond the fee for which he was signed.
With Madrid undergoing a squad rebuild, there is speculation suggesting Martinez could be a possible target. But taking the Argentine international from Old Trafford is anticipated to be a challenging feat.
The defensive talent is highly valued by Ruben Amorim who sees him as an important player for the side with his spirit and determination.

Key player

Martinez is revered for his skills particularly on the ball, which is why Amorim sees him as an irreplaceable asset in the centre-back position.
The player was purchased by the club in the summer of 2022 for a substantial £56.7 million, reflecting his worth to the team.

High transfer fee

Given Martinez’s significant value to United, his transfer would require an excessive fee. He is under contract until summer 2027, with an option for another year.
Moreover, Martinez has often expressed how much he likes being at the club, hinting at his reluctance to leave.
As investment in new talent is expected in the coming months, existing key players like Martinez are likely to be further motivated to stick around.

Defensive signings

United seem to be setting their sights on potential additions to the defence, with Miguel Gutierrez of Girona and young Diego Leon of Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno, mentioned as potential targets for the winter transfer window.
Left-back is a problem area for Amorim right now as Luke Shaw is back injured and the club could well dip into the transfer market to sign a replacement in January. Leon has been strongly linked as he fits the bill in terms of an attacking full-back but he is still very young and would be a signing for the future.
