Dorgu amazing strike for Man Utd against Arsenal sees him claim top award

Patrick Dorgu's stunning strike against Arsenal has seen him win Manchester United's Goal of the Season award.

The Denmark international hammered a shot into the net off the crossbar, as the Reds overcame league leaders Arsenal 3-2 in a dramatic January meeting.

Not only was the goal a piece of true quality, the timing was also crucial as in many ways it opitimised a turning point in the season for United.

It was the Reds second game with Michael Carrick in control after the win over Manchester City and it continued the momentum generated by that result.

With the scores tied at 1-1, just after the break, Dorgu took possession between the lines and played a couple of interchanges with Bruno Fernandes.

For the last of these, the skipper had to hook the ball past Martin Zubimendi, meaning the ball was bouncing when our no.13 regained it.

A flick of the boot took the Spaniard out of the game and it sat up perfectly for Dorgu to unleash a stunning strike with his left foot.

The dive of David Raya was incidental as Dorgu's shot proved to be simply unstoppable, rattling the woodwork before bouncing over the line.

It was a rocket reminiscent of Rooney, Ronaldo and Rashford - all previous winners of this prize, which was first awarded in the 2005/06 season.

Dorgu's strike came out on top of the fans vote, ahead of another goal from that memorable afternoon at the Emirates Stadium.

Matheus Cunha's curled finish, which restored our lead late on, following Mikel Merino's equalier, came second in the poll.

Fernandes's free-kick at Old Trafford against Bournemouth, during December's thrilling 4-4 draw, placed third.

Unfortunately Dorgu also suffered an injury in the Arsenal game which meant he went on to miss a number of games but he has now returned for the final matches where United have secured Champions League football.
