David Beckham has reportedly been approached by a consortium of UAE-based billionaires seeking to launch a £5 billion takeover bid for
Manchester United.
According to
The Sun, the Middle Eastern investors want Beckham to act as the public face of their proposed offer to buy out the
Glazer family, who have owned the club since 2005.
The group believe Beckham’s global profile, deep ties to Old Trafford, and credibility within football could help add legitimacy to their ambitious bid.
Sources close to the consortium claim early talks have already taken place, with Beckham said to be “open” to discussions but not yet committed to any formal role.
The former midfielder could be offered both an ambassadorial position and the opportunity to invest in the club should the deal progress.
Beckham, 50, has previously expressed a desire to see a change in ownership at
Manchester United, telling Sky Sports last year: “We are one of the biggest clubs in the world. We want stability — that’s the most important thing. I want to see an ownership group who will take the club back to what it should be.”
The potential bid comes amid renewed speculation around United’s ownership, with several groups — including Middle Eastern and American investors — having shown interest over the past two years. The Glazer family are believed to value the club at around £5 billion, a figure that has deterred some previous suitors.
Beckham’s involvement would bring immense commercial and symbolic weight to any takeover effort. The former midfielder already has experience in football ownership, holding stakes in both Inter Miami CF and Salford City.
However, insiders have cautioned that talks are at an early stage and that no formal proposal has yet been submitted to United. For now, Beckham is said to be watching developments closely — with sources insisting he would only align himself with a consortium that shares his long-term vision for the club’s future.
