Lucas Update (#1)

I know some of you guys are getting really tired of this saga, some even comparing this situation to Wesley Sneijder's last summer and they certainly have their case. However, just to reassure some of you guys that, as they say 'it's never over 'till the fat lady sings' and it has proven once agin to be true. Reports from Brazil suggested that PSG have outbid United for the hugely talented 19 year old, but both his agent and club director has dismissed those reports. Baptista, Sao Paulo director told UOL "I won't talk about this subject anymore because that's the fifth club the press say have signed Lucas." meanwhile his agent Ribeiro said "I am in Europe to watch the games." "First they said Lucas was at Manchester United, now he belongs to PSG. Everyone is trying to build their story like a jigsaw puzzle."

1. PSG has confirmed that Lucas has signed for them on a 4 and half year deal. It's around £35 million.

Deal or no deal

ManUnitedDaily - Lucas Saga Set for Finish & Match Report

1. Lucas Moura set for medical

Daily Mail reports that United have finally agreed, a staggering £30 million deal with Sao Paulo for Lucas Moura. As many of you know, he has been linked numerous times throughout the summer with United and so now it seems there is a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel. The extortionate fee will have several fans shocked as to why, Sir Alex has chose to pursue such a player, who is relatively unproven at the highest level. On the other hand, Lucas will be seen as the marquee signing that many was hoping for in order to strengthen our squad for the impeding Premier League season. Lucas is expected to jet in today and complete a medical in Sir Alex's presence, who decided to stay back in Manchester to tie up the deal whilst the squad flew to Norway.

2. United 0 - 0 Valerenga

United begun the European leg on their pre-season tour with a intriguing draw with Valerenga in Oslo. United looked comfortable throughout, dominating possession throughout but were unable to breach the stubborn defence. The Norwegians defended in numbers, often with 9 or 10 men behind the ball so although with players like Rooney and Nani, we were unable to break the deadlock. Special mention, goes to Valerenga's goalkeeper Kongshavn, who denied Welbeck with a really smart save and produced mother quick reaction save to keep the Red Devils at bay.

The second half started much like the first with United dictating play, with Scholes once again acting as the conductor of the side. Welbeck and Rooney showed glimpses of their exciting partnership but were kept out. As with many pre-season games, fitness started to tell and so less and less chances were created and the spark seemed to fizzle, consequently the game finished 0-0.

It was great to see Nemanja Vidic back in action today, after an 8 month lay off. He completed 66 minutes and again was comfortable. The Reds now, travel to Gothenburg to face FC Barcelona on Wednesday.

Sir Alex confirms interest in Lucas Moura

Sir Alex during an interview with MUTV, has confirmed United's interest in the hugely talented Brazilian midfielder, Lucas Moura. Amid reports that United has struck a deal with Sao Paulo, Sir Alex was quick to dumb down those expectations, "It's not correct. We haven't reached an agreement for the player. We have shown an interest, but until such time we get a deal agreed, we can't say he's our player."

It has to come as a surprise for many fans to see Sir Alex revealing his transfer targets so early on, but as a reporter it's a great news to see the transparent communications between the press and Sir Alex. Back on the matter, Lucas would cost supposedly £26 million in transfer fee alone, not including agent fees and image rights etc. However, the Boss has also revealed that United are 'not lying around' and are actively on the search for the perfect addition to our squad.

I'll keep you guys updated with the situation, but for the mean time you guys can check out the 'Who is Lucas Moura?' article.

Who is Lucas Moura?

Lucas Rodrigues Moura Da Silva, more commonly known as Lucas Moura, or Lucas is a 19 year old Brazilian, attacking winger who plays for Sao Paolo FC in the Brazilian first league. Lucas Moura has been on the radar of many of Europe's top clubs for a while now, dating back to last summer where minor interest was shown in his talent by Real Madrid, but nothing official was produced. Only mid-season this year and more importantly, toward the end was his ability beginning to be admired by some of the best teams and managers around the world, with his main abilities most noted for having sensational pace, to go along with his creativity and change of direction and his world-class dribbling abilities. He has has many good and bad traits within him, he is skilled and fast and enjoys taking on the defender, however his bad traits are that at times his skills don't produce a finished product as nothing may come from them, and he prefer running at the defence rather than around them.

He is rated as one of the top players in Brazil (behind Neymar) and one of the hottest prospects in the world, being only 19 years of age. His interest heated up in early June, when chelsea, at the same time as chasing Hazard, were tabling bids for him to rival Inter Milan. They eventually had a £32.5m bid rejected, as Moura was in a position where he had no contract problems and did not want to join Chelsea and had the bid rejected, whereas now the club are still reluctant to sell, but he wants to leave to a big European club now. He also has a £67m buyout clause in his contract that is an amount no club will want to meet if they want to stay out of the reach of the FIFA fair play rules.

His club rating him highly for a teenager, at around £25-30m, it is obvious to see why they rate him at such a high amount. He is also compared in similarity to some of the world best attacking wingers, such as Juan Mata, David Silva and can also be compared to as a teenager to Cristiano Ronaldo who also developed at Manchester United. Moura tends to keep to his flanks but run at the defenders with his huge amounts of pace and pure Brazilian skill and excellence in order to get the ball through.

The talent he possesses, the skills and ability, he would be right for united present and future team. Attacking, skills and controlling a midfield in a Brazilian is something ferguson has not got right many times, but this time I can assure you Ferguson would have got this one spot on correct. One of the best talents in the world and for the future, he would dominate games for many, many years to come and would develop under the best Manager in the world, follow in the development footsteps of Ronaldo, how he went from a Portuguese nobody winger to the best in the world in a matter of years. The £25-30m price SHOULD be met as it is what United need and in a year or two will be considered a steal.
